Cunard was founded in 1840 by Samuel cunard, originally called the British and North American Royal Mail Steam-Packet Company, operating four pioneer paddle steamers sailing out of Liverpool, in 1879 the company was renamed to the Cunard Steamship Company, Ltd.
In 1947 Cunard merged with one of its main rivals White Star line to form Cunard White-Star Ltd, 3 years later the name was changed again to the name we know today cunard Line, In 1998 Cunard was acquired by the Carnival Corporation for $500 million and is one of 11 brands operated by carnival.
