titanic squash

The Squash racket court was located on G deck towards the bow of the ship next to the post office, the floor of the squash court was situated on G-deck but the spectator viewing area was located on F deck, it is thought by some that this aided in the demise of the ship as this large area would have filled with water shortly after the collision with the iceburg.

The court measured approximately 30 feet long by 20 feet wide and was the first of its kind, the cost of using the court was two shillings and tuppence for a half-hour game, titanic had a squash instructor on board 24 year old Frederick Wright who was available to give lessons or passengers could play against him, Mr. Wright who could not swim went down with the ship, his body was never found or identified.
